Box 2574 :: :: Olympia, Wa Fido Net 1:352/333 :: :: 98507-2574 206-786-9629 :: :: USA The Quarto Mundista BBS :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: A F F I L I A T E D T R I B E S O F N O R T H W E S T I N D I A N S 1989 Winter Conference Tacoma, Washington Resolution #89-05 PREAMBLE We, the members of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians of the United States, invoking the divine blessings of the Creator upon our efforts and purposes, in order to preserve for ourselves and our descendants rights secured under Indian treaties and agreements with the United States, and all other rights and benefits to which we are entitled under the laws and Constitution of the United States and several States, to enlighten the public toward a better understanding of the Indian people, to preserve Indian cultural values, and otherwise promote the welfare of the Indian people, do hereby establish and submit the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) are representatives of and advocates for national, regional, and specific tribal concerns; and WHEREAS, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians is a regional organization comprised of American Indians in the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, northern California, and Alaska; and WHEREAS, the health, safety, welfare, education, economic and employment opportunity, and preservation of cultural and natural resources are primary goals and objectives of Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians; and WHEREAS, the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board has submitted a position statement that requests support from ATNI regarding the request of the Klamath Indian Tribe to be designated a Health Service Unit Area, and WHEREAS, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians is in full support of the needs of the Klamath Tribe and any approach that is designed to improve its services without negatively impacting other tribes, now THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians does hereby endorse and support the position statement of the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board to request that Indian Health Services designate the Klamath Tribal Community a Health Service Area to improve the quality of services to its membership.
