Box 2574 Fido Net 1:352/333 :: :: Olympia, WA 360-786-9629 :: :: 98507-2574 USA The Quarto Mundista BBS :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: DOCUMENT: ATNI8412.TXT A F F I L I A T E D T R I B E S O F N O R T H W E S T I N D I A N S RESOLUTION #84-F-06 WHEREAS, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) is a regional organization comprised of American Indians from the States of Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Nevada; and WHEREAS, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians recognizes the needs and concerns of the member Tribes and the serious impact upon Native American Indians when specific issues are collectively addressed by Local, Regional, and National Indian governments and their organizations; and WHEREAS, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians is dedicated to the ideals of improvement of health, education, social welfare, and economic development of American Indians; and THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians and its membership does hereby support the attached resolution #NP 84-341-A to protect Gable Mountain located on the ceded lands of the Treaty Tribes of the Yakima, Umatilla, and Nez Perce Indians within the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Gable Mountain is the spiritual mountain that meets the provisions of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act and submits this resolution to the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) Annual Convention in Spokane, Washington on September 9-14, 1984 requesting their support, action, resolution and submission to the proper authorities or agencies; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the National Congress of American Indians take the necessary action to satisfactorily resolve the resolution as endorsed and adopted by the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians. CERTIFICATION The foregoing resolution was duly endorsed at the Annual Conference of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, at Spokane, Washington, on September 8, 1984, with a quorum present and voting. __________________________ ____________________________ Delbert Frank, President Faith Mayhew, Secretary RESOLUTION NP 84-341-A WHEREAS, the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee has been empowered to act for and in behalf of the Nez Perce Tribe, pursuant to the Revised Constitution and By- Laws, adopted by the General Council of the Nez Perce Tribe, on May 6, 1961 and approved by the Acting Commissioner of Indian Affairs on June 27, 1961; and WHEREAS, the Nez Perce Tribe has and is greatly concerned with the Cultural, Religious, Spiritual and Archeological Resource of the Nez Perce Tribe and other Tribes inclusive; and WHEREAS, the Nez Perce Tribe is aware of the violation of Religious Freedom ant other rights of the Yakima Nation; and WHEREAS, the Spiritual Mountain known as Gable Mountain is and historically held within the deepest realm of religious value to the Yakima Nation: and WHEREAS, said Gable Mountain is presently located with the boundaries of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation which is a repository for nuclear waste, fuels, residues and by products; and WHEREAS, as, any use by the Hanford Installation of said Spiritual Mountain of the Yakima Nation is a violation of their Religious Freedom and other rights. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Nez Perce Tribe supports the Yakima Nation to halt the use of their Spiritual Mountain from present activity and further use for any other use but the Historical Religious use by the Yakima Nation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Federal Government implement all actions to protect the Religious Freedom of the Yakima Nation as to said Mountain. CERTIFICATION The foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee meeting in Special Session, August 28 and 31, 1984, in the Richard A.
