Box 2574 :: :: Olympia, Wa Fido Net 1:352/333 :: :: 98507-2574 206-786-9629 :: :: USA The Quarto Mundista BBS :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: A F F I L I A T E D T R I B E S O F N O R T H W E S T I N D I A N S RESOLUTION #84-F-05 WHEREAS, the Executive Committee of the Klamath Tribe is authorized by the Klamath General Council to perform daily governmental business; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe is a member in good standing with the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe was terminated by an act of Congress (Public Law 587) and is no longer recognized by the United States government; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe, despite termination, has retained inherent hunting, fishing, gathering, and water rights through precedent setting court cases (Kimbol v. Callahan I & II and United States v. Adair) which have benefited Tribes across the nation; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe has been devastated and fragmented by the social, economic, and cultural injustices of termination; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe has maintained its Tribal consciousness and conducts governmental functions to protects its Treaty right and provides administrative services for its Tribal members; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe seeks to restore its government to government relationship with the United States and the entitlement to services as provided in the Treaty of 1864 so that the people of the Klamath Tribe may be restored and renewed; and WHEREAS, the Klamath Tribe is requesting the endorsement and support of its restoration effort to achieve Federal recognition through restoration legislation; and THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians does hereby endorse and support the Klamath Tribe in their restoration effort.
