FOURTH WORLD STUDIES
The Fourth World Institute offers advanced studies in
government, geopolitics, history, philosophy, culture and
the environment from the perspective of Fourth World
peoples. The Institute offers individual seminars, graduate
level studies and professional development in Fourth World
Studies with an opportunity to earn a Certificate, or using
work done at the CWIS Fourth World Institute to earn a
Master of Arts degree upon successful enrollment at a
collaborating institution.
The purpose of the CWIS Fourth World Institute is to
provide learning and research opportunities for academic,
professional, spiritual and community activist leaders
world-wide. We prepare leaders for the 21st century through
a combination of on-site learning, independent learning, and
on-line learning. Enrolled students, professionals and
academics gain access to scholars from around the world.
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
! Fourth World Geopolitics: The study the social,
economic, political and cultural relations between Fourth
World Nations and between Fourth World Nations and
present-day states.
! Holistic Environmental Management: The study of
indigenous science applied to understanding changes in the
natural environment and the role human beings can play in
the management of human interaction with the environment.
! Political Economy of Nations: The study of
historical, economic and social factors influencing
political change in Fourth World Nations.
! Traditional Medicine and Self-Determination: The
historical and cultural nexus for Fourth World nations'
decision-making about the past, present and future role of
traditional, complementary, integrated and alternative
medicines in Fourth World society.
! Globalization and the Fourth World: The study of
the historical role Fourth World nations have played in the
succession of globalizations and the affects of such
globalizations on Fourth World societies and their
neighbors.
! Consciousness Studies: The study in history and
culture of Fourth World peoples' and their
inter-relationship with the physical and metaphysical
realities as expressed in different modes of thought,
methods for explaining reality, and the alteration of
reality.
! World Indigenous People Studies: An historical
and cultural inquiry into the social, economic, political
and cultural present of Fourth World peoples.
! Cross Cultural Relations: A study of the methods
and approaches used by different cultures to mediate
relations with neighboring cultures and to resolve disputes
while forming new relationships.
! Fourth World History: A inquiry into the nature
of history as viewed from the perspective of Fourth World
peoples in different regions of the world--the relationship
between such perspectives and the ways in which different
cultures persist.
The Fourth World Institute partners through the Center
for World Indigenous Studies with accredited universities to
award a Master of Arts degree.
